KS1 - Design a poster of a Science Superhero and tell us their super powers
KS2 - Write and illustrate a Superhero based story, which explains ONE of these questions:
• Why do we recycle?
• Why are precious metals so precious?
• How do we get news from space?
• How do robots help make cars?
KS3 - Write and illustrate a story OR Comic Strip, which explains ONE of these questions:
• What makes elements, molecules and compounds different?
• Metals vs Non-metals – what are their superpowers?
• Watch batteries – how do they give out energy?
• How does a mobile phone work?
KS4 & 5 - Write an illustrated article for a teenage magazine, which explains ONE of these:
• The story of Graphene, a UK scientific discovery
• How do electric cars work?
• Coin cells and the challenge of Lithium
• 3D printing and how it helps medicine?
About Us: We are PI-KEM, a specialist supplier of advanced materials & equipment, based in Tamworth. This year is our 30th Anniversary and as part of our celebrations we want to help young people in our local community engage with STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics)
The Competition: Depending on your age/Key Stage, please submit your entry based on the following: A4/A3 poster (Key Stage 1) OR 1000 words MAX plus pictures (Key Stage 2-5)

Prizes:
• Overall Winner - £50 Amazon Voucher (this will include the £30 Category Winner’s prize)
• Category Winners - A £30 Amazon Voucher will be awarded to the winner of each category
• Runners-Up - A £15 Amazon Voucher will be awarded to a Runner-Up in each category
The overall winners submission will typed up and professionally produced in an appropriate format. All winning entrants will be professionally printed.
To Enter: Write an original story/article or produce original artwork for the categories listed. Stories are marked on their creativity, not on correct spelling! You can only enter once - and it has to be all your own work! Entries must be submitted by a parent/guardian and agree to the Terms and Conditions on behalf of the entrant. Unfortunately, we will not be able to return submissions. All entrants to include name of child, date of birth, school, year group, parent/guardian name, parent/guardian contact number and parent/guardian e-mail. Entries to be e-mailed to STEMcompetition@pi-kem.co.uk or posted to PI-KEM Ltd at the address below. If entrants are being delivered by hand, please delivery between office hours (Mon-Thurs 8.30-16.45, Fri 8.30-15.30)
Terms & Conditions: Open to any 5-18 year old resident based in the Tamworth, Polesworth & Kingsbury area. Entrants retain the copyright in their entries but their parent or guardian grants to PI-KEM perpetual non-exclusive royalty-free licence to publish, broadcast (across all media), display and post the entry online and on any other platforms yet to be envisaged. By submitting a story the entrant’s parent or guardian agrees that PI-KEM may at its sole discretion edit, adapt, abridge or translate the entry for the purposes listed above. Confidential data held from entrants will be destroyed at end of the competition.
