An ultrasonic welder is a specialised joining device that uses high-frequency mechanical vibrations (typically in the range of tens of kilohertz) under pressure to fuse materials together, without requiring external heat sources, adhesives or solder. A horn face applies vibrational energy to the contact area, generating frictional heat that melts the material at the interface. As the components cool under pressure, a clean, solid weld is formed.
With Battery R&D, ultrasonic welders are used to weld stacked electrode sheets (Copper & Aluminum) and tabs onto current collectors to prepare pouch cells.
